The Gardens

The Gardens of Pescadero Creek Inn

“Heaven is under our feet as well as over our heads.”― Henry David Thoreau, Walden

The inns gardens along Pescadero Creek are a mix of natives and non-native plants.  Designed by Kathleen Schaeffer of Santa Cruz,CA, they offer great habitat for local fauna as well as something flowering somewhere on the property at all times of the year.  The cool temperatures along the Northern California coast are perfect for flower growing.

With over ten varieties of roses the Inn’s garden offer a wonderful aromatic experience, and a great supply of flowers for the guest rooms. Relax in the garden swing by the organic vegetable and flower garden, or in the hammock slung from the redwoods along Pescadero Creek. The Inn’s gardens, all organically grown, rather relying on fertilizer produced in the large compost bin and multiple worm bins that are fed the leftover food scraps.

We have not used any pesticides or herbacides since we bought the weed infested property, spending hours on our knees removing the weeds by hand. “I learned this, at least, by my experiment: that if one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours.” ― Henry David Thoreau, “And forget not that the earth delights to feel your bare feet and the winds long to play with your hair” –  Khalil Gibran

Gardens are a place of many sprits and ours is no exception. Keep your eyes open for the many garden inhabitants. They are there to protect you and bring you joy. So just plan to pick a spot and relax in the garden, listen to the water of Pescadero Creek flow downstream, and with it your worries and woes. “A single gentle rain makes the grass many shades greener. So our prospects brighten on the influx of better thoughts.

We should be blessed if we lived in the present always, and took advantage of every accident that befell us.” ― Henry David Thoreau
