Inn Keepers of Pescadero Creek Inn

“A journey is a person in itself; no two are alike. And all plans, safeguards, policing, and coercion are fruitless. We find that after years of struggle that we do not take a trip; a trip takes us.”  –John Steinbeck

The dream that began on a summer bicycle ride through Pescadero, CA in 1991 was realized when Ken & Penny opened the Pescadero Creek Inn in April 2003. After a lunch at Duarte’s Restaurant they discovered a brokendown, derelict old building that they felt should be their home.

A native of New York City, Ken relishes the opportunity to live on the California coast near the beach and share with his guests the relaxing environment of the Pescadero. When deciding to change careers he looked at what he liked; gardening, being his own boss, living near the ocean, and came up with the idea of a country inn. After convincing Penny it wasn’t as crazy as it sounded, they embarked on a wonderful journey.

Penny is a native of Chicago and was with Stanford Medical Center for over thirty years, as both an RN and a licensed marriage and family counselor. She developed and was director of the Mind-Body Program at the Stanford Fertility Clinic. While Ken runs the inn, Penny enjoys creating the fresh flower arrangements that adorn the Pescadero Creek Inn rooms, when not riding her horse through the redwoods in the nearby Santa Cruz mountains.

We must let go of the life we have planned, so as to accept the one that is waiting for us. –Joseph Campbell
