Hiking around Pescadero
There are a number of County, Sate and Federal Parks in the Pescadero area that offer a wide range of hiking opportunities, from bluff top beach walks to marshland hikes to treks in towering redwoods. Pescadero Marsh recently had a new bridge installed that opened up new trails. Great bird watching where you will see heron, marsh hawks, redtailed hawks, rdedshouldered hawks and an occassional osprey during migration.
Pescadero State Beach
Just across Highway One from Pescadero Marsh is Pescadero State Beach. A two mile long white sand beach, Pescadero Beach is often deserted on weekdays. Relax on the high sand dunes and watch for whales while listening to the Pacific Ocean waves crash on the shore.
Butano State Park
Butano State Park, about five miles from Pescadero, offers serene hikes through ancient redwood groves. A canyon park, it has bot moderate and agressive hiking trails, some with views of the Pacific Ocean and Ano Nuevo Stare Preserve.
The Ano Nuevo trail starts as an aggressive switchback that reaches the crest overlooking the Pacific and then ambles back down through the redwoods to the valley floor.
